Under head coach Jay Wright, the Wildcats have been making the most of their NCAA Tournament appearances since 2016. Following this win over Houston, the Wildcats have a 20-3 record in games. in the tournament.

It was not a pretty game for Villanova, as they could only shoot 28.8% from the pitch. Luckily for them, Houston has an on-field scoring rate of 29.8. But, Houston made a comeback in the second half and dropped 24 points. That wasn’t enough for the Cougars to advance to the Four Seasons Finals for a second consecutive season.

The Wildcats were boosted from a double performance by senior striker Jermaine Samuels, as he scored 16 points while shooting 6-10 from the field and picking up 10 rebounds.

Villanova had a scary late game, when junior guard Justin Moore fell to the field late in the second half with a leg injury and had to be pulled to the sideline. As the Wildcats were descending after the game, Moore stood up on crutches. It remains to be seen how serious his injuries are.

With this win, the Wildcats are heading to the Caesars Superdome, where they will face winners No. 1 Kansas and No. 10 Miami (Fla.) in the Finals on April 2.
