Viktor Hovland is unlucky when it comes to travel and this week is no different as he came to the Scottish Open with essentially nothing.
When will Viktor Hovland get a sponsorship deal from a brand that will deliver his clubs and luggage on time and safely? How many times has Hovland happened this year? Twice.
According to Golf Digest, Hovland turned up without a racquet or clothing for the Scottish Open event due to airline problems. His racquets still weren’t there on Tuesday, but he was hoping they would arrive before his start time on Thursday.
The first time was in January for the Sentry Tournament of Champions and the clubs arrived damaged. Now it’s July and he has no racquets or clothes as the tournament starts on Thursday.
There’s no telling what state his racquets and stuff will be in when they arrive at this event, so hopefully PING will have their team there and ready in case something terrible happens.
Viktor Hovland has the greatest travel luck.
What happens if Hovland doesn’t have its clubs? Will someone lend him a set? Does he have to retire? He borrowed his caddy’s clubs for a practice round in Kapalua, but this isn’t a practice round. It’s about money.
Being a professional golfer on the PING staff someone needs to work on a fix but at this point why does this keep happening to Hovland?
Is someone trying to sabotage him for betting on another golfer and not wanting Hovland to win? This scenario seems far-fetched, but it came to mind. Or is Hovland this terribly lucky?
The latter seems logical, but someone out there needs to design a club shipping company that safely delivers clubs and apparel to professional golfers – PGA Tour, Korn Ferry Tour, etc.
If someone does that, they have to make Hovland the flagship of the company and make a lot of money. At this point he would probably invest in something like this and contribute to its success.
