Vikings fans will love Kevin O’Connell’s plans for Justin Jefferson

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell wants to use Justin Jefferson like Cooper Kupp, move him and get his hands on the ball.

When viking Fans weren’t already excited to have former Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell as their new head coach, now they’re getting a reason to.

O’Connell appeared on PFT Live and confirmed that his plan to use star wide receiver Justin Jefferson is the same one he used to make Cooper Kupp so dominant with the Rams.

Is it possible for Jefferson to produce a season similar to Kupp’s 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns? That’s the idea.

Kevin O’Connell sees Justin Jefferson as Cooper Kupp the Vikings

“The only thing about Cooper Kupp last season is that he’s lined up in a lot of different places. It was hard for the defense to really know where he was. He did a lot of different things. He’s had an impact in many phases of our offense aside from just catching a lot of balls and getting a lot of touchdowns. Cooper played a big role because he was willing to be perfect at every stage, both running and passing.” O’Connell said per Mike Florio.

“I see that in Justin. I see incredible, incredible ability, but I also see a player that we can move. We can make it difficult for the defense to know where he’s going to be. It doesn’t always have to be in the same place. He doesn’t always have to drive the same routes. He is dynamic with the ball in his hands. He is willing in the running game. This guy is a special, special player. I loved him a few years ago when he came out of draft. We obviously weren’t able to train him. You still go through the process. You see the attributes, you see the skills. He’s really grown from day one.”

O’Connell wielded one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL last year, and he’s inheriting one of the best young receivers in the game.

If Jefferson had 3,016 yards and 17 touchdowns in his first two years in the league, imagine what he could do on O’Connell’s offense.

The new head coach is I’m clearly looking forward to getting even bigger things out of Jefferson.

“Justin Jefferson will play a big role on our offense and will continue to rise in this league. I can’t wait to coach him if we get a chance here this spring.”
