A US man has been arrested in Beech Grove, Indiana, after live television broadcast video of a toddler, allegedly the man’s son, waving and pulling the trigger of a pistol.

A police incident report obtained by CNN affiliate WTHR says Shane Osborne is facing charges of negligence. The report also lists “ring camera footage” received and uploaded to a police server. A 9mm gun found at the scene had 15 rounds in the magazine but no rounds in the armory, the report said.
According to WTHR, Osborne is expected to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon. The show identified Osborne as the boy’s father.
Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley released a statement to WTHR saying he was “shamed” of the incident.
“Like all of you, I’m mortified by what happened and I’m so grateful no one was hurt, especially the young child,” he said.
“I appreciate the quick action taken by Beech Grove Police to secure the small child and the weapon in question.”
According to a release from the show, after a neighbor called 911, Beech Grove police officers responded: “She and her son saw the child alone in the hallway outside their unit and he held a gun and pointed it at her”.
When officers arrived, the child’s alleged father said he had no gun.
“I don’t have a gun,” the man said as police entered his home.
“I’ve never brought a gun into this house, if I have, it’s my cousin’s.”
It’s unclear if it’s the same gun seen in the neighbor’s security footage, but one of the officers at the scene says it’s a “Smith & Wesson SD9mm.”
Later you see the police taking the handcuffed man out of the apartment complex.
An officer, after speaking with on-call prosecutors, said it was enough for an arrest “for child neglect, that’s a felony” because there was a loaded gun in the home.
CNN has reached out to the Beech Grove Police Department, the Marion County Attorney’s Office and the Mayor’s Office for comment and more information.
It’s unclear if Osborne has an attorney at this time. CNN has contacted the public defender’s office for more information.
It comes just over a week after a US teacher was shot and killed by a six-year-old student at Richneck Elementary School in Virginia.
Kindergarten teacher Abby Zwerner was injured when she was shot while teaching her first grade, a police chief said.
Police, citing the ongoing investigation, have declined to describe what led to the altercation or any other details of what happened in the classroom.
Virginia law does not allow six-year-olds to be tried as adults, and a six-year-old is too young to enter juvenile court custody if found guilty.
Authorities have not specified where the boy was being held.
