UNC Guard/Forward Leaky Black is returning to North Carolina for a fifth season, hey announced on Friday using the additional year of eligibility granted to him from the abridged 2020-21 season.
Black, who was named to the All-ACC defense team last year, helped lead the Tar Heels to an NCAA national championship berth where they lost to Kansas. He averaged 4.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 38 games (all starts).
“You’re going to decide that you’re going to be a tar heel again for the 2022-23 season,” Black said in one Video, writing a letter to his freshman self. “Don’t ask how that’s possible. All you have to do is know that you will get an opportunity to play a fifth year with Carolina and you will take it. Don’t take a moment of this experience for granted. Don’t take it for granted that you don the North Carolina jersey.”
Black is the second Tar Heel in as many days to announce a return to school instead of declaring for the NBA draft, with forward/center Armando Bacot returning for his fourth season.
