UNC’s Armando Bacot ties college basketball’s record with a dominant first half

UNC Basketball’s Armando Bacot came into the National Championship game with a sore ankle, but that didn’t stop him from putting up a double-double.

Armando Bacot’s immense season was crowned with another double-double, the 31st of the year, on Monday night.

Incredibly, Bacot only needed a half to reach that mark despite playing on a butt.

The tall UNC man suffered the injury in the Final Four against Duke. He might have been tied up, but he didn’t let that slow him down. Now he owns some NCAA records.

Bacot shares the single-season record for double-doubles with David Robinson. This is a rare and elite society.

He also has a record for himself. He is the first player in NCAA history to have six double-doubles in a single March Madness tournament.

Bacot averaged 16.3 points, 13.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks for the Tar Heels. His influence helped carry the No8 into the final game of the tournament.

And when the team needed him most, Bacot fought through the pain to lead an impressive first half as UNC took control of Kansas.

Regardless of Monday night’s result, Bacot put on one of the most impressive tournament performances in history. The record books will bear his name even if the ACC didn’t name him Player of the Year.
