UFC Vegas 43: Tate vs. staff picks and predictions. Vieira

Team BE made their predictions for UFC Vegas 43 and we unanimously picked Miesha Tate over Ketlen Vieira. Don’t assume that “Bloody Curse” is meaningless as Max Holloway won against Yair Rodriguez last week. As for the co-main event, we were very divided in the weight division match between undefeated Sean Brady and Michael Chiesa.

Note: Predictions are entered throughout the week and collected one day before the event. The explanation behind each option is optional and some writers choose not to do so for their own reasons. For example, if Phil Mackenzie entered all of his predictions for Wednesday without adding any explanation, he wouldn’t know if he was the only one siding with a boxer for any given one. any match or not.

Miesha Tate and Ketlen Vieira

Mookie Alexander: I still have a lot of doubts about Tate pushing to get one last title shot, but she looks pretty good going up against Marion Reneau and even when she retires, it looks like she don’t quickly become a shooter who takes too much damage. Vieira’s performance against Yana Kunitskaya was absolutely terrible and I have to think the weight miss had some impact. Her heart rate wasn’t good for 15 minutes, and she did almost nothing with her undressing. I can’t see her holding five rounds unless it’s a slow-paced kickboxing bout the whole way, and I doubt that’s the case. Vieira’s TDD has historically been excellent but Tate will definitely test her on that front. I think Tate will be able to put Vieira down for the rest of the game and get her well above the stopping line. Miesha Tate by filing, round 4.

Dayne Fox (from the preview): Since Tate has always had to receive more of heart and passion than material gifts, even when it comes to her bread and butter wrestling, there was a time when I could have believed that Vieira should is the most popular in this contest. However, Vieira lost weight in the final competition and her gas tank looked severely damaged. This will be a five-round fight. Even as Tate ended her first UFC bout in miserable fashion, her condition appeared to be unchallenged and if her social media is any indication, She has never been in better shape than now. Aside from the early finish, I didn’t see Vieira do this. Tate via RD5’s TKO

Vieira pick-up staff:

Michael Chiesa and Sean Brady

Mookie Alexander: This fight is very good. Chiesa has the ability to outmaneuver anyone up close but he is also very responsible for getting out of position and then submitting himself. The longer this lingers on foot, even as Chiesa has improved in forward position, the more likely Brady is to do this fairly unequivocally. On the ground, I think it’s really unpredictable. Brady looks like an extraordinary talent… but going from Jake Matthews and Christian Aguilera to Michael Chiesa is a huge leap. He has a great ability to take a dominant position and I think that while Brady looks like a great racer, Chiesa will be able to match him and then some. Michael Chiesa by unanimous decision.

Dayne Fox (from the preview): I’m not confident to choose. Chiesa has entered the game with doubts about how he will do on the carpet with some opponents only to go out and make his way with them. However, Brady felt like a different animal from anything Chiesa had to face, someone Chiesa was so weak against. Chiesa could easily go an inning or two if he can find Brady’s back in a scramble – possibly even ending the fight – but Brady’s grappling fundamentals go unnoticed. enough. I also questioned how Chiesa would respond if things didn’t go as soon as she wanted. He has panicked in the past when he was hit by a small momentum swing against him. It’s a great matchmakers match, but I’m leaning slightly towards the less proven item. Brady passed the decision

Staff chooses Chiesa: Mookie, Stephie, Victor
Staff picks Brady: Dayne, Zane, Connor

Rani Yahya and Kyung Ho Kang

Mookie Alexander: I don’t exactly remember why I picked Yahya when this match was booked and then canceled but I might as well stick with it. If this fight goes at any speed then Yahya will lose. But if that’s his condition, he could have one more classic performance against someone who tends to be a grappler-ready. Rani Yahya by unanimous decision.

Dayne Fox (from the preview): Kang hasn’t seen in two years, so it’s fair to question if he looks like he is now 34. If he resembles the same boxer, it’s unlikely Yahya will find much success in taking down Kang. built as a brick house. Of course, Kang’s prominence is somewhat limited, but not nearly as much as Yahya’s. As long as Kang can keep the fight still, the fight is his to take. As long as he survives the inevitable early attack from Yahya – who will even try to pull the guard – I think Kang has succeeded in winning. Kang passed the decision

Yahya pick-up staff: Mookie
Kang pick-up staff: Dayne, Stephie, Victor, Zane, Connor

Joanne Wood vs Taila Santos

Mookie Alexander: Is there a more inconsistent quantity striker than Wood? Meaning she tends to land a lot of significant hits in her teamfights but that mass just randomly disappears for the entire round. Santos carries a considerable amount of power with her punches and she is more than capable of surpassing JoJo. This was just a bad game with a clear result. Taila Santos by unanimous decision.

Dayne Fox (from the preview): Wood’s concern as she gained weight was how she would deal with her opponent’s physicality. While her takedown defense has exceeded most people’s expectations, it’s still a bit shallow, opponents willing to make a second and third attempt at a takedown can success can be found. What’s even more disturbing is that Wood can’t get up after being knocked down. So I totally understand the odds are leaning as much as when they’re leaning towards Santos. Wood has a path to victory if she can lift enough mass before being knocked out, but I was too impressed with Santos’ combat IQ to see that happen. Santos passed the decision

Wood picker:

Davey Grant and Adrian Yanez

Mookie Alexander: I would have picked Yanez without hesitation if it weren’t for Grant’s serious improvements at the forward position. We know him better for what he can do on the ground and certainly in his fight with Marlon Vera he showed just how much punishment he can take against someone of his caliber. by Vera. Yanez is a sharp puncher, so I’m not sure Grant would be advised to stick around with the stronger and faster guy, but in single exchanges I could see Grant have moments leading to him having to fight the mat. I do not know. This is a tough one for me and it’s hard to choose. Davey Grant by unanimous decision.

Dayne Fox (from the preview): Beating Grant is easier said than done as Yanez has made great strides in defending his kill since his regional days. With his feet, Yanez can do things that other people can’t thanks to his incredible hand speed and natural ability to read. Despite Grant’s improvements to the legs, it’s hard not to support Yanez. Grant is tough, but Yanez is getting better with every game and it’s hard to believe his speed advantage didn’t make for a brief night for the two of them. Yanez via RD2’s KO
