twenty years old Jasmine Lucindo has never been one to shy away from conflict.

“I’ve always loved sports, but what drove me to learn more was learning how to defend myself and those around me,” Lucindo told the outlet. “I witnessed physical assaults on my mother and aunts and that made me learn how to defend myself.”

At just 14 and less than a year of experience, Lucindo accepted her first professional kickboxing match against an opponent more than twice her age.

After winning 4-0 professionally in her freshman year in kickboxing, Lucindo was ready to transition to mixed martial arts. Her pro debut ended with her defeating Alline Khyra in the first round. She would win two more professional fights that year, both by TKO.

This Saturday, Lucindo has a chance to shine at the biggest MMA promotion in the world. At UFC San Diego, Lucindo (13-4) meets her most impressive opponent yet: undefeated Mexican strawweight Yazmin Jauregui (8-0).

Jauregui is tapology #1 Latin American Fighter by pound for pound and is considered a favorite by the odds makers. Despite being the three years younger fighter, Lucindo has more professional experience than Jauregui and is on an impressive seven-fight win streak. As this is both fighters’ first UFC fights, octagon jitter could potentially be a factor for both young women on the big stage.
