UConn is making its way to the bogus 14th consecutive Finals in the NCAA Women’s Tournament after beating NC State in a doubles thriller.
The stage was set on Monday night for the Women’s NCAA Tournament for an absolutely spectacular showdown. In one corner is the UConn Huskies, revived from the return of Paige Bueckers and looking to make a wild 14th straight ride to reach the Finals. On the other side is the number 1 seed in the region, the NC State Wolfpack, eyeing their first Finals trip since 1998.
Everything about the Elite Eight match is advertised. UConn soon rose to a double-digit lead, but NC State consistently trailed it. Midway through the fourth quarter, they took the lead and seemed to be in control. However, with a phenomenal performance from the Bueckers, the Huskies were forced to work overtime.
In extra time, the Huskies took a three-point lead with just a few seconds on the clock after a couple of clutch free throws. But Jakia Brown-Turner won’t be denied when she looks into the corner to tie it up and force double.
However, the NC State team still doesn’t have enough for another comeback. UConn took control and, with a late push, they sealed a 91-87 win and put a bow into an absolutely phenomenal game.

This instant classic got the entire college world to stand and applaud before an unlikely match between two great teams.
As you’d expect, there are some who aren’t very excited about the concept of UConn, the 2nd seed in the region, essentially getting to play a home game in Bridgeport against the 1st seed Wolfpack.
But at the end of the day, basketball fans should just be thrilled to witness such a game. Both in the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Tournament, we’ve seen some bogus stories and games. However, this might have jumped right to the top of that list.
