Ubisoft employees continue to push back against the company’s plans to use blockchain technology to, among other things, distribute NFTs (non-fungible tokens), according to a new report. Bloomberg report.
An announcement outlining Ubisoft’s blockchain strategy on its internal bulletin board was highlighted by hundreds of negative comments, with a clear response that it was a “deeply embarrassing day” to work for. French video game group.
This latest round of criticism follows One Kotaku Report from December 2021 detailing similar responses to disclosures Ubisoft QuartzOne mostly skewed The NFT platform allows players to purchase exclusive in-game items with blockchain support. Only support quartz Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint at launch and has yet to expand to other games in Ubisoft’s portfolio, possibly because no one cares about it.
But enough back story. I know you’re all here to see Ubisoft workers slam into their bosses, and boy, there are some doozies in Bloombergof reports.
“Are we competing with EA for the title of ‘Most Hated Publicly Hated Game Studio’?” wrote a Ubisoft employee. “Because this is how you do it.”
“I think the kids call this entire comment section ‘proportioned,’” wrote another, before pointing to Ubisoft’s. ongoing issues with company culture. “Seriously, our trust in leadership has been shaken by the handling of harassment cases, and now this?”
“You know what else makes a lot of money?” a third person involved, reportedly unafraid to use their real names to criticize Ubisoft’s decision-making. “Make breakthrough blockbusters that are breathtakingly fun. Why don’t we focus on that instead? ”
Ubisoft leader is understandably dissatisfied with these comments shared with the public.
It is unclear what effect, if any, this internal feedback will have on Ubisoft’s flirtation with blockchain technology. Just two days ago, the developers of Sandbox–basically a digital landlord simulator—Announced a partnership with Ubisoft to introduce the Rabbids to the “metaverse”. Yes, the same Rabbids went on an adventure with Super weird Mario just a few years ago. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
