During the first episode of his podcast, recipient Tyreek Hill claims he made a late pitch to Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid to stay on the team.
Wide receiver transactions have dominated the NFL offseason, with some of the game’s top names moving to other teams. One of those pass catchers was Tyreek Hill, who was trafficked by the Kansas City chiefs to the Miami Dolphins.
This week, Hill released the first episode of his It Needed to be Said podcast, in which he addressed a variety of topics. In that episode, Hill claimed he made a late pitch to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid to keep him on the team.
“I tried my best,” Hill said, h/d ProFootballTalk. “I spoke to the great man Andy Reid. I talked to [Patrick Mahomes]. I thought, ‘Look, can we make a difference? Can we make a difference? Can the guaranteed money make sense for me? Can it make sense for my family, please?”
Tyreek Hill claims he lately suggested Andy Reid to stay with the Chiefs
Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus mentioned during the show that things had changed when the Green Bay Packers traded Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders and renewed his contract for a five-year deal worth $140 million. Rosenhaus then said he reached out to Chiefs general manager Brett Veach about making a similar deal with Hill.
As Hill mentioned in the quote above, he spoke to both Reid and Patrick Mahomes, where he told the head coach that if he was paid $25-$26 million annually, he would stay. That obviously didn’t happen, and the trade to Miami took place.
When the trade was reported, it was also revealed that Hill would receive a four-year, $120 million contract extension with the team. That’s $30 million a season.
The Chiefs moved on after trading Hill when they selected Skyy Moore in the second round of the NFL Draft and signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling and former Clemson star Justyn Ross. Prior to the trade, the team signed JuJu Smith-Schuster.
This is just a portion of Hill’s podcast that contained some newsworthy information, to say the least.
