Tyler Smith looks like a first-round pick with the pads

Cowboys first-round draft pick, offensive lineman, Tyler Smith, is looking good in the early days of full practice.

The Dallas Cowboys were selected with the 24th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft TylerSmith, an offensive tackle from the University of Tulsa. So far in the training camp it looks like they made a good choice. The Cowboys put on pads for the first time at training camp yesterday and Smith held nothing back in his first opportunity to really show his strength with his new team.

That’s 6-foot-3, 308 pounds Trysten Hill leveled by Smith, and today the Cowboys’ new lineman picked up exactly where he left off, this time with pancakes as a second-year defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa:

The Cowboys’ Tyler Smith proves naysayers wrong early on in camp

It was well documented that Tyler Smith was an absolute maul going into the draft, but in the eyes of many he was a Flyers first-round pick. There were complaints from Boy Scouts about his discipline and pass protection technique, and he was considered nothing more than a blue tackle by the majority of experts. Concerns surrounding its development needs made it look like a project, but the Cowboys liked what they saw.

joining people like TyronSmith (LT), Terence Steele (RT) and Zack Martin (RG) Tyler Smith will likely end up in the starting left guard position, but there’s a good chance he’ll take on right tackle reps in 2022. Tyron Smith is one of the most Well paid left tackles in football, but proper tackle position presents far more open competition. Only time will tell if the rookie can live up to that responsibility, but he has an excellent opportunity to grow and improve independently in one of the NFL’s most touted offensive line units.

When Tyler Smith finds a way to combine his physical prowess and clear desire to impose his strength on every rep with a technical development, it becomes a frightening sight for opposing defense and an anchor for the Cowboys’ offense to focus on during the coming season and beyond.
