Richard Childress Racing driver Tyler Reddick‘s streak of unfortunate runs in the NASCAR Cup Series continued in COTA as the No. 8 driver saw yet another victory error right in front of his eyes. Despite only leading two laps in COTA, the 26-year-old was always present in the leading group throughout the race.
At the final restart with just 12 laps to go, he started with great pace and took the lead Ross ChastainChase Briscoe, AJ Allmendinger everyone was hot on him, but the joy was short-lived as a mistake at Turn 1 gave eventual winner Chastain a chance to drive through the Esses, which he took with both hands.
Tyler Reddick dropped to 5 in goal orderth as Alex BowmanChristopher Bell and Track Elliot got the top 4 places behind the winner Chastain. Now Reddick has explained how he missed out on a potential win at the Circuit of The Americas.
Find out, said Tyler Reddick.
Tyler Reddick acknowledged that being on the losing side all day made him prone to aggressive driving, which fueled the Turn 1 mistake to concede position to Chastain.
“I just didn’t get a good start into Turn 1 and had just about cleared the first car, but I didn’t stop. We’ve been really on the loose side all day and that makes us pretty prone to getting aggressive at the end. So it was easy to get around there and that was kind of a problem I had all day‘ said Tyler Reddick.
Tyler Reddick went on to explain that just a small push from behind caused his car to go off the track and miss in following traffic. He added that the team will learn from this and use the simulator to get the best again for the next race.
“I just had a little bit of pressure from anyone and the rear of this car was off the track. It got through the esses pretty well and was able to do a lot of things really well, but we just missed it a bit where we had to fight other cars in traffic, says Tyler Reddick.
“It was really easy to get that good start from the corner and complete a pass or fight really hard. So it’s been tough but we’ll learn from this and go back to the simulator and get back to work, added Tyler Reddick.
