A South Carolina man was arrested last weekend after congressmen found a tortured dog named Asher screw into the door frame.
Tyler Austin Jerdo22 years old, charged with one count of mistreatment of animals (torture), resisting arrest, fleeing and possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
Based on a report by Spartanburg, the CBS affiliate based in SC, WSPAThe Union County Sheriff’s Office relayed the circumstances leading up to, and including the defendant’s arrest, in detail.
The sheriff’s office said a county employee downgraded him to a deputy on Friday, February 25, 2022 after leaving the Jerdo mansion. That employee allegedly told law enforcement that the defendant was “under the influence of something strong” and that the man’s dog was bolted to the wall of the bathroom where it is believed to be. fenced.
Multiple deputies and animal control officers responded to the location and are said to have met Jerdo’s mother, who owned the property and allowed them access when they asked to enter.
Inside, delegates said, they found a horrific display of animal cruelty.
According to one deputy, Asher, a 5-month-old puppy, could see behind a large pile of things, and so could the poor animal’s predicament: one of its paws was screwed into the frame. bathroom door.
Law enforcement began removing items to reach the dog and remove the screw from its leg with a drill. However, the bathroom door still wouldn’t open, so a deputy went around the side of the house, removed a screen from the window, and climbed into the bathroom.
Journalist Sydney Broadus describe the horrifying scene:
The deputy could see the dog through the window and said it was still alive, but it was extremely tired and limp. They entered through the bathroom window to help chase the dog. However, upon closer inspection, the delegates found the dog had a second screw in its leg inside the door frame.
According to UCSO, the second screw could not be removed from the leg, however, because it was too deep and could not reach the tip of the screw, the dog’s leg was pulled through the screw.
Asher was then loaded into a co-pilot’s car.
Finally, a truck driven by the defendant pulled into the driveway. As Jerdo got out of the car, deputies said they informed him that he was under arrest. The defendant is said to have started an argument and a deputy admitted to laying hands on the suspect, which is believed to have led Jerdo to begin resisting arrest.
After an alleged altercation with multiple members of law enforcement in which the defendant was tipped off twice, Jerdo was handcuffed and taken inside a deputy’s car. But supposedly not for long.
According to UCSO, some of the delegates then went inside to gather more evidence when they heard screams from outside. Jerdo is said to have escaped from the back of the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene entirely but was held back by other deputies. In this second turn, the accused allegedly headbutted one of their deputy before he was finally subdued.
Jerdo is currently being held at the Union County Detention Center without bond.
According to Greenville, Fox affiliate WHNS is headquartered in SCThe dog, which appears to be some kind of pit bull, gaur mix, or similar breed, is currently recovering at a local animal clinic.
