Two-time major champion next on the break-off tour

LIV Golf are reportedly set to announce their next big signing at Bedminster this week and it will be two-time Major champion Bubba Watson.

LIV Golf will host its third event at Trump Bedminster, New Jersey this week with three new additions to the Breakaway Tour. Jason Kokrak, Charles Howell III and Henrik Stenson are all leaving the PGA Tour to join the Saudi-backed golf league.

But apparently Greg Norman and the rest of the league have another big announcement and newcomer to announce at this week’s Bedminster event.

According to Handicap 54 on Twitter (a source who has been all over the place and amazingly accurate with the LIV Golf rumors with all the players jumping to the new tour), two-time Masters winner Bubba Watson will be announced as the newest player to join LIV.

LIV Gulf rumours: Bubba Watson next to join Saudi Arabia-backed league

He further reported that Watson will not play for LIV in 2022 but will join in 2023 and be team captain for the Breakaway League.

It had long been rumored that Watson would be one of the players to leave the PGA Tour early in the process for LIV Golf, but as the weeks went by there were questions as to whether or not that would actually happen. However, based on these reports, it seems that will indeed be the case.

At 43 and turning 44 in November, Watson fits very well with the demands of many other PGA Tour veterans who have stepped into this new league, having largely passed his prime but still as a big name in the golfing world attracted attention.

All in all, Norman and the LIV Group have to be happy about the newcomer. Attracting a player like Watson with a Major Winner pedigree gives the league more credibility as they advance their bid for OWGR points and seek a firmer foothold in the golfing world.
