It comes after a separate brawl at Perth Central Railway Station on Thursday night following Australia Day celebrations.

As police tried to break up a group of about 150 people, several people threw rocks and bottles at officers, but no injuries were reported.

A police spokeswoman said several people had been arrested and an investigation into the incident was also ongoing.

Acting President of the WA Police Union Paul Gale condemned the attacks on police officers.

“Not only is crime in Australia becoming more violent, but our politics are also becoming more violent,” Gale said.

“I have a simple message for anyone considering using political violence against a police officer: If you have a problem with the politicians, take it to the ballot box. Don’t except police officers who work unsocial hours and do their best to protect property and keep the community safe.”

He added that the WA Police Union would support any of their members injured in the brawls.

It was a disappointing end to the night, with crowds in Langley Park watching scaled-down fireworks and a well-behaved drone show.
