Lightning struck Stevie Ray twice. He’s beaten Anthony Pettis for the second time in less than two months — and this time it’s one step closer to 2022 PFL easy championship.

beam will now fight Olivier Aubin-Mercier after his victory over Alex Martinez in the evening’s other PFL lightweight semi-final match.

After Ray pressed early, Pettis got into trouble late in the opening round and was defeated by Ray. Ray locked Pettis in a deep north-south choke that could take out the former UFC champion. To his credit, Pettis burned out and caused a little fuss before the end of the first.

However, Pettis wasn’t the more aggressive in the second round. In fact, Ray managed to get him back down and get to Petti’s back, where he stayed until the end of the round.

Even with his back against the wall, Pettis didn’t seem to get anything going in the last lap, Ray knocked him down again briefly. Pettis attempted a small riot in the closing seconds, but it was to no avail.

Ray and Pettis fought in PFL 5 on June 24, with Ray holding Pettis in a rare Twister submission hold to earn a second round win.

Ray’s first regular season fight at PFL 1 ended in a unanimous decision loss to Alexander Martinez.

On the same map, Pettis made an assist from Myles Price in the first round.
