Former President Donald Trump drew the approval of Alabama Rep. GOP Mo Brooks, who is running for the US Senate seat, calling the situation “very sad.”
“Mo Brooks of Alabama made a terrible mistake recently when he ‘woke up’ and declared, referring to the 2020 Presidential Election Scam, ‘Put that behind you, leave that behind you. you’,” Trump said in an email from his Save America PAC organization.
“When I endorse Mo Brooks, he has a 44-point lead and is unstoppable. He then hired a new campaign staff member who ‘excellently’ convinced him to ‘stop talking about the 2020 Election.’ He listened to them,” Trump continued.
“Then, according to polls, Mo’s 44-point lead completely evaporated based on his ‘2020’ statement made at our big rally in Cullman, Alabama,” he added.
“When I heard his statement, I said, ‘Mo, you just blew up the Election, and there’s nothing you can do about it.” So sad, but because he decided to go in one direction. otherwise, so do I, and I withdraw Mo Brooks Endorsement to the Senate,” Trump’s email continued.
“I don’t think the greats of Alabama will disagree with me,” he said, adding, “I will be giving out a new Endorsement in the near future!”
A poll published Tuesday in the Alabama Daily News shows Brooks struggles:
Mike Durant, the famous retired military helicopter pilot “Black Hawk Down,” leads a new poll in the race for the US Senate, with former Alabama Business Council President Katie Britt coming in second. and Congressman Mo Brooks lagged behind.
In a survey of likely Republican voters, 34.6% said they would vote for Durant if the election were held today, while 28.4% chose Britt and 16.1% chose Brooks. Only 14.1% remain undecided.
For Brooks, who for months had been seen as the frontrunner in the race, the results showed a slide. The same poll in August showed him leading the race with 40.8% of the vote. That is a decrease of 24.7% in almost eight months.
