Trump asked for Scooter Libby’s pardon to be revoked

Former President Donald Trump was reportedly asked if he could rescind the pardon for Lewis “Scooter” Libby after it is announced, he will attend a fundraiser for Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) in March.

Libby, former chief of staff to former vice president Dick Cheneywas convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice for his role in the leak of the identity of a CIA officer.

He was sentenced to more than two years in prison, but never served time because of the then President Mr. George W. Bush sentence commas.

NPR report Bush’s refusal to grant Libby a full pardon created a rift between Bush and Cheney.

Cheney told Bush, “You’re leaving a good man wounded on the battlefield.”

Trump took over Libby’s case in 2018. The then-President issued a full pardon for him, despite admitting he didn’t know him.

Maggie Haberman afterward New York Times reported Trump feeling disloyal Friday after learning Libby planned to attend the event for Liz Cheney.

Cheney has of course become one of the anti-Trump faces in the GOP.

Josh Dawsey afterward Washington Post shared Haberman’s tweet, and commented that the former president “asked if he could rescind” Libby’s pardon.
