Triangle of Sadness Trailer: Woody Harrelson’s shocking Cannes winner

The first trailer of Ruben Ostlund’s Triangle of Sadness is online now for you to watch if you can take it. The satirical dark comedy won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Ostlund, who first broke through with his comedy Force Majeur, has now won two Palms d’Or thanks to 2017’s Triangle of Sadness and its satire The Square. The new film is Östlund’s first English language feature film.

‘Triangle of Sadness’ star ‘Beach Rats’ and ‘The Kingsman’ actor Harris Dickinson as an aspiring model who gets the chance to vacation aboard a luxury yacht after his influencer girlfriend wins them a free trip. Woody Harrelson plays the yacht’s alcoholic captain. The yacht is full of overbearing and snobby guests who make up the 1%, but they all get their compensation when the voyage takes a dark turn.

At the Cannes Film Festival in May, “Triangle of Sadness” shocked audiences and caused some strikes thanks to a 15-minute scene showing vomiting and defecation in all their graphic detail. Neon, who picked up the film from Cannes for distribution, leans wholeheartedly into the film’s gross factor as the movie poster shows one of the characters vomiting golden puke.

diversity‘s Peter Debruge gave “Triangle of Sadness” a strong review from Cannes, writing, “The way he constructs, blocks and executes scenes is of painstaking precision – a sort of nagging uneasiness compounded by awkward silences or a unwanted buzzing of flies between characters struggling to communicate.”

Triangle of Sadness is the third consecutive Palme d’Or winner to be released by Neon, along with Titane and Oscar-winning Parasite. The film will have its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.

Neon is bringing Triangle of Sadness to theaters this fall. Check out the trailer in the video below.
