Trevon Diggs is already scaring the Cowboys

Early in Dallas Cowboys training camp, cornerback Trevon Diggs had a few moments that made the team worry about his 2022 season.
Trevon Diggs’ sophomore season with the Dallas Cowboys in 2021 showed promise after he was named an All-Pro. Diggs finished with 11 interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns to lead the Cowboys’ defense. But it wasn’t that impressive for some, who questioned whether Diggs was an all-or-nothing player.
During the year, some media outlets indicated that Diggs would either come up with an interception or be hit. Though the Cowboys were probably pretty happy with their interception numbers last year, Diggs also had 10 missed tackles for a 16.1% missed tackle rate per pro football reference.
Diggs had a few moments against CeeDee Lamb in training camp that seem to feed into some of the narratives that he’s either booming or broke as a player. Even though Lamb is a great player and it’s still a training camp, if the team or fans had any doubts, these games don’t help them feel better.
Diggs has shown as he’s lined up in man-to-man coverage that he can be beaten, and it’s not just Ceedee Lamb who badly burned him in camp.
Though it can play around and Diggs’ top-flight ball skills help it make up for shortcomings in one-on-one, it’s a problem. But if Diggs can hone his man-to-man reporting skills, he can rise into the conversation of one of the NFL’s finest corners.
