Tragic details about father of children found in suitcases in New Zealand

According to local media, the father of the two children found in suitcases in New Zealand could also have come to a tragic end.

The case has been shrouded in mystery since the remains were discovered earlier this month by an Auckland family who had won the contents of a locker at an auction.

A Seoul police officer told CNN this week that a woman believed to be the mother of the two children is in South Korea – and it was revealed on Saturday that the children’s father may have died of cancer, before the woman left New Zealand.

New Zealand media outlet Stuff reported that the victims are believed to be a girl and a boy, born in Auckland in 2009 and 2012 respectively.

According to Stuff’s report, the children’s parents are both from Seoul, South Korea, and married in New Zealand.

Stuff reported that the children’s father died of cancer in late 2017. The father’s parents lived in Auckland, but it’s unclear if that will remain so, according to Stuff. has reached out to New Zealand Police for comment.

On Friday, police announced they had completed the identification process – although they will not publicly reveal the children’s names.

The police are working with international authorities on the case.

According to a South Korean official, the children’s mother arrived in South Korea in 2018 and there was no record of her subsequently leaving the country.

According to the official, the woman held Korean citizenship before acquiring New Zealand citizenship “a long time ago.”

The official did not provide the woman’s name or other identifying details and could not confirm whether she was born in South Korea.

Her whereabouts are unknown, the official said.

South Korean police have not launched their own investigation into the case, but are working with New Zealand authorities through Interpol.
