Traffic chaos on the Queensland M1 after a serious accident involving ten vehicles

Up to ten cars were involved in a serious accident on a Queensland highway shortly before 5 p.m. on Thursday.

7NEWS understands that two teenagers, aged just 13, were allegedly driving a stolen car leading up to the accident, which caused chaos and hospitalized several people.

According to Queensland Police, the accident happened near the M1 exit in Pimpama.

According to 7NEWS, two teenagers and a woman in her 50s were hospitalized with injuries sustained in the crash.

Queensland Police confirmed to 7NEWS.com.au that two teenagers have been arrested following a multi-vehicle accident.

“Between six and ten vehicles were damaged in the alleged incident, which occurred around 4:40 p.m.,” police said.

The stolen vehicle is believed to be a white Mazda stolen from Varsity Lakes that was reportedly traveling at high speed in the moments leading up to the accident.

The multi-vehicle accident caused chaos on Pacific Mwy and three southbound lanes were closed but have since reopened.

“Three lanes that were closed during the accident were reopened around 6 p.m.,” police said.

“Drivers are asked to avoid the area, otherwise they must expect longer delays.”
