Townsville: Major police operation underway as shots are fired

Shots were fired in a north Queensland suburb of Townsville and residents of the area were jailed as police responded.

Police declared an emergency around 9pm Sunday for an area in Kirwan shared by Dalrymple Rd, Kern Brothers Dr, Sandstone Dr and Golf Links Dr.

“Police are currently responding to reports of shots being fired in this area,” it said in a statement Sunday night.

“Residents inside the restricted zone are urged to remain in their properties and lock doors.”

The statement said police were conducting emergency operations in the area and urged people and planes to avoid the zone.
