A 27-year-old Italian holidaymaker has been killed in France after being hit by a falling shutter after having dinner with friends.
Carlotta Grippaldi, from Turin, was on the Grande Rue in the old town of Briancon, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of south-eastern France, on August 13 when the incident happened.
According to Italian media, Carlotta had left a restaurant in the old town with a group of friends.

However, she was reportedly hit by a shutter falling from the second floor of a building.
She received medical attention at the scene but died in an ambulance while being taken to Briancon Hospital.
Carlotta reportedly had a degree in Economics from the University of Turin, as well as a Master’s degree in Marketing and Digital Management, and was passionate about the mountains.
In 2019 she is said to have trained as a ski instructor, according to Italian media, which reported that she worked as a ski instructor in touring.
The shutter reportedly detached from the window and fell off as she passed below.
According to the French media, the local public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into negligent homicide and endangering the lives of other people.
The police investigation into her death is ongoing.
