Tourist falls 50m down cliff while trying to take a selfie on Phillip Island

A young woman has survived after falling 50m down a cliff while trying to take a photo on Phillip Island in Victoria.

The 22-year-old French woman was seriously injured in the fall as she tried to take the photo with her friends at Cape Woolamai around midday on Saturday.

The woman’s friends managed to climb down the cliff and wait with her until emergency services arrived.

Emergency responders pulled the woman to safety and she was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Acting Bass Coast Police Inspector Dave Fyfe said ABC The woman had wandered off the trail to take the photo and had “pretty serious” injuries.

He warned about the risks of taking photos in dangerous places.

“The fact is that there is no selfie clause in physics and gravity is a one-way street,” he said.

“Where there are leads, stick to the leads – especially those who might be visiting the area.”
