Top trading target clear after George Springer’s injury

The latest rumors surrounding the Toronto Blue Jays make it clear that the team are looking for insurance from George Springer following his recent injury.
The newest Toronto Blue Jays Rumors point to exactly where they’ve been all along, except maybe with an extra finger.
MLB Network’s Jon Morosi says the Blue Jays may be pushing harder to land Switch hitter Ian Happ in a trade with the Chicago Cubs due to George Springer’s recent injury.
Happ’s ability to hit from both sides of the plate was already mesmerizing. Add that he can play all over the field, including down the middle, and he seems like just what the Blue Jays lineup could use in a variety of ways.
Blue Jays Rumors: Ian Happ Trade Matters More Than Ever
If Happ is traded before he plays his next game with the Cubs, he will leave Chicago with a .279/.360/.436 slash on the season. For his career he has hit .248/.342/.436. Knowing exactly what kind of slugger he might be in Toronto this year, and even next, would be a bit of a mystery. While he lost some strength to the home run in 2022, Happ already has a career-high 25 doubles and is on track for the best batting average of any season he’s compiled.
Regardless of Springer’s health, Happ would be someone the Blue Jays could use. As a personal favorite at this year’s close, there’s little he can’t do.
Happ’s role on Toronto could eventually turn into a defensive rover, offering starters regular rest breaks or an opportunity to take the DH role. He’s been a headliner on the Blue Jays rumors throughout the trade deadline season. With only hours left to strike a deal and ask questions about their most experienced slugger, the only question left is: what do the Cubs want for him?
With Happ signed until next season, Toronto would not sign any lease. He’s someone to keep for a run next season as well.
While there haven’t been too many rumors about the Blue Jays linking them to so many potential helpers, one has to wonder if perhaps David Robertson or even another pitcher could join Happ on the way north.
