Tony La Russa makes his strongest statement yet about Tim Anderson

When Hall of Fame manager Tony LaRussa has his back on a player, he’s not afraid to speak positively about them whenever he can. That’s exactly what he did for White Sox star shortstop Tim Anderson.

White Sox star shortstop Tim Anderson has received uncomfortable attention lately when he responded to Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson calling him “Jackie (Robinson).”

After the game on May 21st Between the White Sox and Yanks, Anderson revealed that Donaldson had called him “Jackie.” [Robinson]Donaldson acknowledged the “Jackie” comments but said it was a reference to Anderson saying he felt like “today’s Jackie Robinson” in a 2019 Sports Illustrated interview.

Donaldson was banned for a game over the comments and planned to appeal. He is currently on the Covid injured list.

La Russa was quick to defend its star player, calling Donaldson’s comments “racist.”

As the situation simmered, La Russa took the opportunity to speak highly of Anderson. La Russa said Anderson is as special as White Sox fans think, adding that fans across the country need to know what Sox fans know.

That’s high praise from the Hall of Fame manager who many have called old school. While he may have some old-school baseball musings, La Russa is loyal to its players. Anderson referred for his manager as a “best friend”.

White Sox fans on Twitter concurred with the manager’s sentiment.

Anderson and the White Sox exit the Yankees series and take on the Boston Red Sox in Guaranteed Rate Field tonight. Fans will surely show Anderson some love throughout this series.

And rightly so, as he comes into the series batting .359/.400/.517 with eight doubles, five homers, seven stolen bases, 22 runs and 18 RBI. He currently has an 11% strike rate.
