Tony Khan discusses WWE hosting a Raw event at UBS Arena ahead of AEW Dynamite

AEW will be hosting this week’s episode of Dynamite at UBS Arena in Long Island, NY. WWE hosted a Raw Night Monday event from the same venue on November 29, but the competitor’s promotion outsold them in ticket sales. As of Wednesday morning, Dynamite had sold 9,176 tickets while Raw’s final number was 5,887, according to WrestleTix.
AEW President Tony Khan spoke about the rivalry between AEW and WWE in an interview with News 12. Khan said he was interested in running the arena before WWE announced a show there. . He questions whether it is possible that when he talks about competition, he is really only interested in his own business at a time.
“I just came to run a show on Long Island and it was like this, you know, they jump in the front row, run a show ahead of me, try to beat me in a market. Well, how did it happen? ”
Khan then introduced AEW Rampage against WWE SmackDown on FS1 in the last 30 minutes October, where AEW beat WWE in the key demo 18-49.
“You try to be competitive, like [a] 30 minutes, head-to-head on FOX, FS1 vs TNT and I didn’t make that choice for them to extend the airtime by 30 minutes. I was very surprised when I saw it. My review was genuine when I saw it. ”
He said some great stars lined up to wrestle that week. Khan noted that while some might mock CM Punk wrestling Matt Sydal and Ruby Soho wrestling The Bunny, he views Bunny and Sydal as great workers. He said they as a company stood up for themselves and had a great show.
“We got pretty good ratings, demo, and then I saw the ratings leak over the weekend. It’s not from us. I’m not the one to leak them and then when the key numbers, the ones the network actually looks at, came out on Monday, we won and someone tried to beat us in days by leaking those things. It’s not AEW, so all of the things you’re talking about, normally, we’re sitting here minding our own business and then like someone doing something, you know, which some might call very aggressive. “
Khan notes that when people make positive business moves, you have to protect yourself, and if people portray that as when he’s stepping out to compete, he feels AEW programs are designed Simple design for fans to enjoy.
