Tommy Fury’s father says ‘complete idiot’ who weighs 230lb broke son’s ribs with bare knuckle shot while training for fight with Jake Paul

Tommy Fury’s late announcement of pulling out of a planned PPV boxing match against Jake Paul has become one of the main stories in combat sports as 2021 comes to an end. Part of that is because the elimination of the match cleared the way for a rematch between Paul and former UFC champion Tyron Woodley – after Woodley lost their first fight via split decision in August. But also because of the split. confused as to why Fury pulled out of the fight.

“I am a man to be feared – [trash talk], pressure. All this? He was cracking and trying to find a way out,” Paul told Sky Sports on the news that he will no longer be fighting Fury on Showtime PPV later this month.

For their part, Camp Fury explained that their boxer’s removal from the order was the result of both illness and injury. And in an attempt to clean the air Fury’s father talks to Mirror to give a timeline for exactly what happened during his son’s training.

“He’s had a bacterial chest infection for about six or seven weeks, but that doesn’t bother us, we’ll fight through that. But, for a complete idiot in the gym, punched him in the ribs. A man about 16 or 17 years old with one of his bare knuckles, punched him in the ribs and broke his ribs.

“At the end of the day, I was terrified, we were going to try and fight to get through it, because when we X-rayed him, they said, ‘No, it’s just bruised, that’s it. is a ligament injury’. And then he was rushing in and he couldn’t throw a punch, he couldn’t move. He said, ‘Look, I’m in pain, Dad’. He told Tyson, ‘I’m in so much pain, I can’t move’.

“So I took him to a specialist in Manchester, they X-rayed him properly and the results were in. Broken ribs, what can you do? Chest infection, broken ribs, unfortunately cost a lot of money, people lost a lot of money, huge disappointment for Tommy and us. But, we will fight back, we are fighters, if you want to move back, that’s not a problem. ”

However, if rebooking is Team Fury’s hope, it doesn’t look like a plan in Paul’s sights right now. In the same aforementioned Sky Sports interview, Paul sounded frustrated with the level of promotion Fury has made in recent weeks, “I don’t see any reason to come back next year and give him a… a day’s pay,” Paul revealed. “It would be more fun to leave him in the dust.”

Despite short notice, Paul vs. Woodley 2 will still take place on December 18 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL. The tag is also set up to depict a women’s lightweight fight between multi-division champion Amanda Serrano and Miriam Gutierrez.
