“To be honest, everything feels weirdly normal up until now” – Butch reveals that behind the scenes, Vince McMahon’s WWE retirement has had an odd normality

Vince McMahon will forever be remembered as the godfather of professional wrestling. Its contributions to the industry have long been appreciated, and its sheer brilliance defined some of the golden eras this thing has ever seen. Under his guidance, McMahon created a slew of intriguing characters and impressive wrestlers, including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, Kurt Angle, not to mention his greatest sculpture to date – The Undertaker.
The son of a wrestling promotion owner, Vince McMahon began finding joy in wrestling from his early days when he attended his father’s company. He later bought the whole thing from his father and started it all under himself and called it the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). McMahon featured heavily in high-octane storylines in his early days, particularly during the company’s Attitude era, with the most prominent act among them being his angles with Texas Rattlesnake Steve Austin.

What was it like backstage when Vince McMahon announced his retirement?
After pioneering the business and establishing his company as the best wrestling promotion in the entire world, Vince McMahon finally decided on July 22nd to announce his walk-on from WWE in any way possible. The entire wrestling universe was taken aback by the shocking announcement and there was a lot of hustle going on in Connecticut.
Recently, a member of The Brawling Brutes Butch (formerly Pete Dunne) was interviewed by Stephanie Chase where he spoke about the atmosphere backstage at the Smackdown tapings that day and said that while everyone was shocked to hear that Vince retired but he didn’t find anything there to make a mess and everyone was well organized with their jobs.
“To be honest, everything feels strangely normal so far. Even on the day that we were on SmackDown and we were notified that Vince had retired, there’s obviously that second where people look around and say, ‘Did you see that? Can you believe this happened?’ But afterwards everyone is so focused on the job at hand that it feels strangely normal and exciting at the same time.”
