She explains that the stroller and a backpack she’s carrying are filled with groceries, and as she approaches a parked car in a driveway that juts out onto the sidewalk, she begins to vent her frustration.
“That’s what I meet every day on a single f***** day,” she says.
“Every day I go shopping, some idiot parks on the sidewalk.”
Although the car blocks complete access to the footpath, the woman manages to skirt it without difficulty.
In the video’s caption, the Queensland mother explains that the stroller could tip over on its side because it had to move onto the grass to get around the car.
The following day, the TikToker posted another video with examples of cars in her area being parked over the footpath.
Together, both videos have been viewed more than 160,000 times.
Many users in the comments section were divided regarding the issue, with some arguing that it was no big deal.
“Wow that must have been sooooo hard for you,” one person wrote.
“It was the least inconvenience,” commented another user.
“It didn’t take any extra seconds to walk around. If you’re looking for things that annoy you, you’ll always find them,” a third person wrote.
However, many pointed out that cars parked across footpaths pose much more than a minor inconvenience to wheelchair users.
One user wrote, “I used to work in disability care and my client wanted to go for a walk, we had to turn back because I couldn’t get her wheelchair by!”
“My mom is paralyzed and that’s actually a big problem,” commented another user.
“The amount of people in this comment section who aren’t also thinking about wheelchair users who can’t just walk around is actually quite concerning,” wrote another.
It is illegal under Queensland Highway Code to block access to and from a footpath.
The legislation states: “A driver shall not stop on a roadway in a position that impedes access by vehicles or pedestrians to or from a footpath ramp or similar means of access to a footpath, cycle lane or passage.”
The maximum fine for this offense is $2875.
