The 30-year-old, who currently lives in Los Angeles, suffered a broken jaw in an unprovoked attack by a homeless man.
Significant injuries from the incident led to a hospitalization where it was determined McLaren had a brain tumor.
Then the unfortunate woman was run over by a car on her way to radiotherapy.
“I’m this friend living this dramatic ‘can’t-catch-a-break lifestyle,'” she said in a TikTok video that has racked up more than 1.6 million views.
The Aussie said she “accidentally went back to work in downtown LA and was punched in the face by a homeless guy.”
McLaren said the blow “broke her jaw”, which led to surgery.
“My immune system was super weak and I ended up getting an infection and pneumonia,” she said, saying she was “super groggy and I fell and hit my head.”
She said the fall resulted in “a brain injury where we then found a tumor in my brain.”
Surgery failed to remove all of the tumor, necessitating radiation therapy.
“I had to start radiation,” she continued.
“Then the other day I went to the hospital for my radiation treatment and was run over by a car in front of the hospital.”
She said the driver ran a stop sign.
TikTok users were stunned – with some reassuring McLaren measures, things would improve.
Grey’s Anatomy plot
“Bless your heart! I pray you are better,” said one.
“Mercury isn’t retrograde anymore, girls. Good luck is on the way,” agreed a second.
One commenter joked, “Grey’s Anatomy should pay you to use this in a storyline, girl.”
“You’re the friend I just randomly send get well cards to for reasons, for no reason, or just in case,” said another.
“What an unfortunate series of events!” One commenter said, while another remarked, “How unfortunate”.
“Damn, that sounds like your life is all unfortunate events that just keep happening,” said one.
Meanwhile, others saw a silver lining and watched as the punch to McLaren’s jaw led to doctors finding the brain tumor.
“Okay, but the homeless guy somehow saved your life?” one quizzed.
“Maybe domino effect,” suggested another.
“Unsure if super happy or super miserable,” wrote one user.
McLaren responded, explaining that she had a benign tumor in her head “which is actually very dangerous”.
“The way they grow can explode in your head and then you die,” she said.
“You need to be treated very quickly.”
She said her particular type of tumor can increase in size after a “traumatic brain injury or blow to the head,” like the blow to her jaw.
McLaren said it was only after the jaw injury that she “got seizures and passed out in the shower.”
“Maybe he helped find it, or maybe he helped cause it.”
McLaren has been sharing updates on her Instagram account, writing in her bio: “A comedy of mistakes… Welcome to the life of an Australian paying US medical bills”.
