Tiffany Boone will star alongside André Holland in the Apple limited series The Big Cigar.
The series is based on Joshuah Bearman’s Playboy article of the same name. It tells the true story of how Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton (Holland) relied on his friend Bert Schneider, the Hollywood producer behind Easy Rider, to avoid a nationwide manhunt and headed to Cuba escape. Boone will play Newton’s girlfriend, Gwen Fontaine.
Boone is currently starring in the Amazon series Hunters, which was renewed for a second season in 2020. Season 2 of the show currently has no release date. Boone also recently starred in the first season of the Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers. She is also known for her work on shows like Little Fires Everywhere and The Chi. On the film side, she has appeared in feature films such as The Midnight Sky, Beautiful Creatures, and Detention.

Jim Hecht, who recently created HBO’s “Winning Time,” wrote and executive produced the pilot. Janine Sherman Barrois, the showrunner for shows like Claws and Self Made and the creator and showrunner of OWN’s The Kings of Napa, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Don Cheadle is on board to direct and executive produce the first two episodes. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.
Sherman Barrois executive produces under her banner Folding Chair Productions, which has an overall deal with WBTV. Joshua Davis and Arthur Spector are also executive producers through Epic, a division of Vox Media Studios, while Bearman is also executive producer.
