Since then, a long, long wait has passed Mad Max: Fury Road dropped our jaws and confused our collective minds in 2015, but George Miller’s sequel to a generational classic is finally getting closer. The trailer for his next film, Three thousand years of longingis out now, giving us the first real look we’ve had at Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton’s vehicle.
Details on the film are sparse so far, other than that it’s an adaptation of AS Byatt’s 1994 short story The Djinn in the Eye of the Nightingale. Three thousand years of longing Swinton plays Alithea Binnie, a lonely scholar who accidentally summons a Djinn (Idris Elba) on a trip to Istanbul to grant her three wishes in exchange for his freedom.
The trailer gives us plenty of explosive visuals (literally and figuratively) and vivid colors. It’s a journey – there’s a good reason this is one of our most anticipated films of the summer.
Three thousand years of longing isn’t the only film Miller has worked on in the past seven years. The director will also direct a prequel Mad Max: Fury Road Starring Anya Taylor-Joy as young Furiosa alongside Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Three thousand years of longing will premiere in theaters on August 31st.
