“This Karen stuff is really REAL”

The year is 2022 and racism is still ingrained in the United States of America. Every other African American is perceived as a threat, even if they haven’t done anything wrong. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the world witnessed the true nature of police as they killed George Floyd in custody.

It’s safe to say that people only care about racism when it becomes a global problem. The youngest black man to face this disrespect was Hall of Famer wide receiver Terrell Owens. A woman in Owens’ community started an ugly fight when she unnecessarily called the police and said he was speeding.

Terrell Owens was puzzled by how “Karen” treated him for it

This incident happened on Wednesday evening when Terrell Owens was driving his car to his mailbox to collect his mail. Then a woman yelled at him to stop racing. This confused the former 49ers wideout as he hadn’t accelerated at all. He got out of the car when the local woman called the police.

The 48-year-old filmed the entire altercation on his cell phone and posted it to Instagram on Thursday. Owens continued to call the woman “Karen,” which has become a popular term for white women who call the police and report non-criminal acts to people of color and feel threatened, even when they have not been approached by “colored people” at all.

“When I called her ‘Karen,’ her husband wanted me to stop calling her ‘Karen.'” said Owens. “They thought I would just bow and listen to the whole mess. OK. Here we are America.” The woman called 911 and reported that Owens threatened her and nearly hit her with his car. The police made the conversation between the woman and the dispatcher public.

“He’s an African American” said the woman. She was asked if the person was carrying a gun, to which she said: “I don’t know. He got out of the car.” The dispatcher finally asked: “Did you want an officer to (answer)?” The woman replied “Yes.” Shortly thereafter, the Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived at the scene and asked what the argument was about. “The deputy contacted a man and woman at the scene who were having a verbal argument,” the department statement said. “The parties were separated and the situation resolved.”

Owens was visibly hurt by the woman’s unfounded accusation. “I want you all to let yourselves know that this Karen stuff is really real.” said Owens. “It’s really real.”
