Jim Irsay and be Indianapolis Colts had a straight path to the playoffs in 2021. All they had to do was win their Week 18 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, whose turn it was to have the worst record in the NFL. It seemed like a formality for Indy, but in the end it was anything but.

When Jim Irsay gave the Colts the green light to trade a third-round player and a conditional pick that became their first-round pick for Carson Wentz in 2022, he believed he was getting a long-term solution to Indy’s quarterback problems since Andrew Luck’s retirement. It really didn’t work out in the end and the game against the Jaguars was the best proof of that.

The Colts only needed to win in Jacksonville and instead delivered an absolute dud in which they never took the lead. Wentz was one of the many bad players for Indianapolis as he ended the game after completing 17/29 passes for 185 for a touchdown and an interception.

The truly appalling performance left owner Jim Irsay understandably shocked and incredibly disappointed, and he recently looked back on the game and shared his thoughts on it.

Jim Irsay recently spoke to about the Week 18 loss and said “No disrespect to Jacksonville but I mean they are the worst team in the league. You play well and hard in the first quarter or something and they want to go to their dressing room and clean it up.”

Irsay further added “I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. You say, “My God, something is wrong here. It needs to be corrected.’ I think that’s how we feel.”

It was truly a shocking performance by a team that was expected to make the playoffs and had the talent on the roster to do so. With Carson Wentz essentially being traded over that game and Jim Irsay subsequently opting to bring in former MVP winner Matt Ryan as their new quarterback, the Colts are unlikely to suffer another meltdown like this in 2022.
