‘They’re not for sale at all’ Xavi denies transfer speculation surrounding Barcelona star

Frenkie De Jong struggles in Catalonia

Last week, rumors surfaced that Frenkie De Jong was up for sale amid Xavi’s Barcelona realignment since his arrival after Ronald Koeman.

The Dutchman arrived in Spain from Ajax in 2019 and played almost every minute he saw fit.

However, with first Pedri and now Gavi’s breakthrough in consecutive seasons, can they find a way to shed an expensive asset?

Xavi refused the request

In short, no.

If Xavi’s words are anything to go by, it’s no surprise that De Jong will stay in Catalonia for the foreseeable future. Speaking ahead of Barca’s clash with Villareal on Saturday night, Xavi said:

“We need them [de Jong, Gavi] – they are not for sale at all. Selling them is not our idea. Riqui Puig is like another player on our team. We believe in him.”
