‘They’re In Big Trouble’ NBA Insider Reveals Nets Ready to Lose Both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving » FirstSportz

That Brooklyn Networks appeared to be not only favorites to win the 2022 championship, but a potential dynasty poised to compete in the seasons to come thanks to what may be the best superstar trio in NBA history. It is obvious that this did not happen. Due to compulsory vaccination Kyrie Irving Brooklyn missed most home games and the start of the season, James Harden opened the back door and the Boston Celtics swept Kevin Durant in four games after suffering an injury in the regular season.

The Nets are in serious danger of losing all three superstars – Durant, Irving and James Harden, just months after they had a roster that included them all. In February, Harden was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers and Irving has reportedly received clearance to seek a sign-and-trade. Additionally, KD’s future at Brooklyn is in question, particularly if Kyrie leaves, as rival clubs appear to want him off the Nets to increase the likelihood of Durant being traded.

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant’s legendary relationship may come to an awkward end as it never really began. Since joining the Nets, Irving has only appeared in 103 of 246 regular-season games, missing games primarily for personal reasons and primarily due to coronavirus restrictions. New York City’s vaccination requirement prevented him from playing most of last season because he refused to purchase the COVID-19 vaccine. Due to an injury, Durant only played 55 games, and Brooklyn finished at the No. 7 East. In the opening round of the playoffs, the roster was swept by the Celtics.

Irving proved last year that basketball troubles are the least of the Nets’ concerns, although obviously having Durant and Irving on the court together is enough to handle most basketball challenges. Also, both were there throughout the four-game postseason this year. With or without Irving, the Nets must wish for better health and provide them with more support, but they have few options. It would be beneficial if Durant were willing to use Irving to bolster the roster in some way.

What is the latest update to the Kyrie KD saga?

If Irving opts into his contract, the networks can still agree to a trade or perform a sign-and-trade even if he opts out. Durant’s position is a bit more secure, having agreed to a four-year extension last offseason. Irving has by Wednesday to decide whether to exercise his $36.9 million player option for the 2022-2023 season, and if he doesn’t, Durant may seek to trade for himself. Much like the burden the Pelicans received in 2019 when they sent Anthony Davis to the Lakers, a deal for Durant would ensure a return. According to Brian Windhorst, the situation for the Nets is far from dire.

While the Nets would likely prefer to keep him without Irving, their connection and the minimal value of an Irving trade would likely effectively destroy Durant’s relationship with the franchise if Kyrie leaves. However, Durant wouldn’t have much clout to force a specific location as his contract only has four years left.
