The USMNT squad for the Concacaf World Cup qualifiers announced: 13 MLS players were called up; John Brooks removed from the list

The United States men’s national team will enter the upcoming Concacaf World Cup qualifiers (Supreme +) are in good form after picking up four points during the November international break. They are currently second in the Octagon, just one point behind Canada they will face in Hamilton next week. They also lead Mexico and Panama by one point with a goal difference of three thanks to El Tri.

On Friday, Gregg Berhalter released a list of 28 players he will call up camping in Columbus, Ohio, ahead of qualifiers against El Salvador (January 27), Canada (January 30) and Honduras (February 2) in a window that could guarantee a bid for the World Cup depending on the outcome. 13 out of 28 are in the MLS.

Goalkeeper (4): Sean Johnson (New York City FC; 9/0), Gabriel Slonina (Chicago Fire; 0/0), Zack Steffen (Manchester City / ENG; 26/0), Matt Turner (New England Revolution; 13/0)

Defender (9): Reggie Cannon (Boavista / POR; January 22), Sergiño Dest (Barcelona / ESP; February 15), Brooks Lennon (Atlanta United; 1/0), Mark McKenzie (Genk / BEL; 8/0), Chris Richards ( Hoffenheim/GER; 6/0), Antonee Robinson (Fulham/ENG; March 15), Miles Robinson (Atlanta United; March 15), DeAndre Yedlin (Galatasaray/TUR; 71/0), Walker Zimmerman (Nashville SC; 23/2)

It was a compelling lineup that once again showed John Brooks being left behind as the changing of the guard took place with Walker Zimmerman and Miles Robinson becoming the preferred center pair. Given the pace of games coming, there will also be rotations among other names.

Expectedly, the midfield group has Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams, but Yunus Musah will have quite a few opportunities to take this third place in the midfield. Luca de la Torre will also be excited if he gets the chance and Jordan Morris’s return to the squad will provide a late game pick for Berhalter.
