Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming animated series Samurai Rabbits: The Usagi Chronicleswhich is based on Usagi Yojimbo Comic series created by Stan Sakai which came onto the market in 1984.
The series looks like a fun show made for a younger audience as it tells the adventures of the samurai rabbit as he and his friends fight evil and strange yokai monsters to save the world. I’m a long-time fan of the badass character Usagi Yojimbo and wasn’t sure what to expect from this series, but this show is definitely made for little kids, which is fine! I just wasn’t what I expected.
The story follows teenage rabbit samurai Yuichi, “descendant of the great warrior Miyamoto Usagi, on his epic quest to become a true samurai. But he is not alone. He leads a ragtag team of misfits – including a villainous bounty hunter, a wily ninja, an acrobatic pickpocket and a trusty pet lizard – as he battles deep-seated moles, metal-tipped winged bats and monsters from another dimension, all in the world striving to become the best samurai usagi.”
James Wan (The Incantation, Aquaman) is executive producer of the series and is set in a world that blends high-tech modern imagery with classic Japanese references.
The cast of the show includes Darren Barnet as Usagi, Shelby Rabara as kitsune, Alex Le as gene, Mallory Low as Chizu and more. 88 Pictures overseas its animation along with Netflix, and Sakai is serving as executive producer on the series.
Netflix set to debut Samurai Rabbits: The Usagi Chroniclesis on 28.04.
