Fights fans have been eagerly awaiting the upcoming exhibition match between Floyd Mayweather and Don Moore on May 14 at the iconic Burj Al Arab in Dubai. But now it looks like they will have to wait for that fight.

Mayweather had previously quit boxing in 2015 but came back to fight Conor McGregor in 2018 and both made history. After that, Mayweather was also involved in two exhibition matches against Tenshin Nasukawa and Logan Paul. His last fight with YouTube superstar Paul was a smash hit and the event sold out.

After a year, Mayweather came back to fight his longtime training partner and former professional boxer, Moore. The pair have long been together in Dubai to promote the fight.

It seems fans will have to wait a little longer to see Mayweather vs. Moore fight.

Popular sports journalist Michel Benson recently shared the news of the cancellation on his page official twitter account. The exhibition was halted at the last minute due to the unfortunate death of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Due to the death of Sheikh Khalifa, UAE government officials have issued an order suspending any kind of work in the country for the next three days. This includes the suspension of the fight between Mayweather and Moore.

Mayweather did not issue a statement canceling the fight, but did offer his condolences to the President on his social media.

The retired boxer shared a picture of Sheikh Khalifa on his Instagram account and wrote: “Sending my condolences to the entire UAE,” he said. “RIP Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed.

Other than that, there was no information on the event’s new schedule. A press release from the organizer of the bout said: “We are deeply saddened by the announcement of the recent death of the President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan… Hence the Global Titans Dubai event, which was scheduled for May 14th at the Burj.” Al Arab Jumeirah has been postponed until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience and assure fans that this spectacular event will take place in the future.
