Phil Kessel and Paul Stastny have finally signed to new teams, but there are still many fascinating players in NHL Free Agency.

Most NHL Teams will be happy with the rosters they currently have available as training camps will start very soon, but some teams may still be on the lookout for new faces to compete for the roster spots.

There are still a number of players at liberty who could make a positive impact on any team that needs their special skills or has a lack in their position, and here we take a look at the top five NHL players, which are still available.

5. Jonathan Dahlen

This list begins with a player who had two completely different seasons last year as a former San Jose Sharks winger Jonathan Dahlen.

The Swede was originally picked in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2016 draft by the Ottawa Senators before being traded to the Vancouver Canucks for Alexandre Burrows before moving to San Jose for Linus Karlsson in 2019.

He made his NHL debut in the 2021-22 season after playing mostly in Sweden’s Allsvenskan for Timrå, with whom he had helped promote them to the SHL the previous season.

In the first half of the campaign, Dahlén impressed heavily. By January, he had scored eight goals and 14 points in 28 appearances, giving him a comfortable pace of 41 points in 82 games.

The second half of the year saw him struggle by health concernswas placed in Covid protocol twice, suffered a concussion and other upper-body injuries, and finished the year with 12 goals and 22 total points in 61 games.

As a restricted free agent, the Sharks chose not to qualify him, allowing him to go into unrestricted free agency. Since he showed earlier in the season what he could really be capable of at the NHL level, there are many reasons for teams to give him another chance in the league.

Still relatively young at 24, he’s on a par with former Anaheim Ducks player Sam Steel, who’s played significantly more games in the NHL, and if paired with the right team, could come in for a pretty decent bargain become contract. The top 5 players still available before the start of the season
