As fantasy football drafts approach, there are always players who finish well below their draft position. Avoid reaching for these five guys in drafts.

For many, fantasy football is just as exciting as real-life sport. It’s a weekly grind that requires a combination of skill and luck. You can brace yourself for as much success as possible, but it takes a lot of luck to get you to the top.

With fantasy drafts on the rise, there are many players who are drafted well below what they will end up doing during the season. There’s also the opposite: players being over drafted for the performance they ultimately put out.

These five players have a higher chance of busting this year.

5. Cam Akers, RB, Los Angeles Rams

It’s still bizarre that Cam Akers came back from a torn Achilles tendon in less than six months. He was able to play in the playoffs and Super Bowl in the same season that he sustained the injury. It’s definitely an achievement in itself. But how was he when he came back?

Akers rushed 67 times for 172 yards, which is just under three yards per carry. The good news? He acted as the Rams’ workhorse, dominating running back snaps. The bad news? He didn’t look good. Granted, he just came back from injury. But the fact that he didn’t look good and that they kept Darrell Henderson and drafted Kyren Williams in the fifth round at least gives me a break while drafting him as an RB2.

Rams coach Sean McVay also recently specified that “I look at it because we have two starters” when we talk about Akers and Henderson, according to The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue. Rodrigue also mentioned that the two defenders split first-team replays fairly evenly.

Akers might end up being a good real player for the Rams, but his use and potential committee put me off designing him as a solid RB2. The top 5 bust candidates to avoid in 2022
