That Harry Potter Movies are part of one of the most successful movie franchises of all time. They represented one of the most popular book series ever written, and fans who loved them are now showing them to their children, who also love them. So Warner Bros. jumped at the chance to expand its already established fan base and explore the world of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Based on Harry Potter Textbook and its author Newt Scamander, the opening film was set in America, 70 years before the events we witnessed at Hogwarts.

It seemed to be a hit and the first film did decently, grossing more than $800 million worldwide. But the second film did not continue its momentum, grossing $ 650 million worldwide and receiving poor reviews. Since the release of the first film, scandal and snag after scandal have plagued the franchise.

The creator of Harry Potter Books, JK Rowling, has been a source of controversy as she has made comments about the transgender community. The star of the second film, Johnny DeppHe was told to leave by Warner Bros. after being charged with assaulting his ex-wife (which have now been dropped). He was replaced in the franchise by Mads Mikkelsen. Now the studio is dealing with the actor Ezra Miller, who plays Credence Barebone in the films. Miller is an easygoing gun who’s often been in the news, most recently after he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly at a Hawaiian karaoke bar, then allegedly broke into a couple’s Hawaiian hostel room, stealing some of their belongings and her threatened, which ended in a restraining order against the actor.

To say the studio is apprehensive about the franchise’s future is an understatement. As we get closer to the release of the third film this weekend, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Warner Bros. has informed Variety that the fourth and fifth films depend on the success of number three. According to the report, there is currently no script for a fourth part.

The report continued, “Analysts believe Warner Bros. could save face by returning to reliable favorites at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For one, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone director Chris Columbus Expressed interest in customization cursed child Stage show – which starts right after the epilogue deathly Hallows and focuses on Harry, Ron, Hermione and their descendants – for the big screen. (Although Warner Bros. is an investor in the Tony-winning play, Rowling owns the rights to it cursed child.) Potter and Co. could also find new life in streaming; Although nothing official is in the works, there are initial talks about a Harry Potter-related TV series for HBO Max.”
