The results are in: Trump-backed candidates in the Texas primary have a lot to say

All Republican candidates who got Donald Trump’s approval ahead of Tuesday’s Texas primary have the former president to thank.

According to a letter from Lt. gov. Dan Patrick, they all either won their races straight away or are leading ahead of the May runoff, including himself.

“I’m proud to announce that every candidate I’ve asked you for has won or is firmly in first place and going into a runoff. You were 12-0 last night with your Texas endorsements from my recommend list,” he noted in a letter to the former president.

“Their main support of strong conservative candidates who believe in MAGA politics and have worked hard every day for months was a winning combination over their opponents,” the lieutenant governor said.

He said he received “more votes than any other person on the ballot” with about 1.4 million votes, which is about 300,000 votes more than in the 2018 primary.

“Your support, combined with the most conservative session in history last year, has helped me get more votes than any other person on the ballot. I ended up with over 1.4 million votes. That’s 300,00 votes up from my 2018 primary, and it seems like an all-time record for any candidate who’s ever campaigned in a contentious Texas primary. I have used your support in all of our ads and mailers and have been pinned to the top of my Facebook page for months,” Patrick continued.

The lieutenant governor also noted that a former Democrat-turned-Republican from a border region also won his race.

“Ryan Guillen won last night with 54% of the vote in a 3-way race. He is the courageous democrat who switched parties in the border region. You can be very proud of that. It was a historic victory that will open the door for more conservative Hispanic Democrats to switch parties,” he said.

“It’s also important to remember that with a few exceptions when you pledged early, there were no guarantees. Those were hard-fought races,” noted the Lieutenant Governor.

“I recommended her because I believed in her and I knew that her support, combined with her work ethic and conservative records, would place her in the winners’ circle. You all thank you for your strong and complete support, as do I,” he said.

“I know you had other big wins in Texas last night as well. In history, no president’s endorsement has been as strong as yours,” he added.

Trump also endorsed Gov. Greg Abbott, who won with 66 percent of the vote in an 8-candidate race. The results are in: Trump-backed candidates in the Texas primary have a lot to say
