The Rehearsal renews for Season 2 on HBO

If your mind has been provoked by Nathan Fielders The sample in the last five weeks (that is, if you’ve seen Nathan Fielders The sample anyway), then we have good news: HBO has renewed the series for a second season, the broadcaster announced on Friday.
The extension comes just before the season one finale on Friday night, when viewers can see Fielder’s final rehearsal process with his “son.”
The sample was sold as a docuseries, and its primary goal was to help people prepare for life’s biggest moments — becoming parents or admitting you lied about getting a master’s degree — by allowing them to to rehearse under Fielder’s careful, anxious eye. The result is an intricate and meticulous series that simultaneously builds Fielder’s persona of situational cringe comedy and deconstructs its artificiality in real time.
If that sounds pompous, it is. The introspective series isn’t as complicated to watch as it is to describe, but grows more confident as time goes on. As each episode takes wild turns in social anxiety and the nature of reality television’s performance, it’s hard to know which part of Fielder or the show is specific The sample will turn next. And even though HBO is giving a second season, the press release suggests the powerful are just as intrigued and confused as we are.
“Nathan sparked such a lively conversation with me The sample‘ said Amy Gravitt, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, in a statement on the renewal. “We have no idea where Season 2 is going to take us and that’s the joy of this boundary-pushing show from a truly unique talent.”
While audiences will have to wait until Friday night to see Fielder building a second season (if at all), there’s no word yet on whether a season 2 budget will allow for an even more scrupulous redesign of the set.
