The Red Sox’s new lineup could spark a late-season surge into the playoffs

The Boston Red Sox’s new and potentially improved lineup might actually keep them in the playoff chase.
That Boston Red Sox had an interesting trading session. They added. You have withdrawn. They built a different lineup with some familiar and unexpected faces.
Catch for the Red Sox now, Reese McGuire. Tommy Pham will play a lot of outfield for them. At first base there is Eric Hosmer.
Moves like this feel very similar to what a buyer might do. The Red Sox were expected to sell, but have instead created a new lineup that could potentially actually give them a postseason boost.
The Red Sox’s new lineup could be better than it was before the trading deadline
Jackie Bradley Jr. is no longer on the team and maybe they’ll bring Trevor Story back into the lineup sooner rather than later. The changes Boston has made over the past week have been significant. Can it result in the team actually getting a wildcard spot?
No team in MLB has had such a big roller coaster ride as this one. At the end of April, competitors were already salivating at the idea of trading for some of their best players. Just a month later, the Red Sox were victorious and suddenly a formidable contender in the American League.
Injuries derailed them, with many of the larger ones suffering the pitching staff. The Red Sox, now in action Saturday 54-54 and just 3.5 games from a playoff spot, have a chance to return to where they feel they belong: in the middle of the action.
Boston must skip the Cleveland Guardians, Chicago White Sox, and Baltimore Orioles to even get in the circle on the third wild card deck. Fortunately, the Tampa Bay Rays and Seattle Mariners have their own problems. The Rays have faded in recent weeks and could very well be out of the race. The Mariners have a lot more momentum but are beatable.
The Red Sox still have a long way to go before we can consider them a truly viable playoff contender. A long streak later, the Boston story could change drastically.
Hosmer is better than Bobby Dalbec. Pham is better than Bradley Jr. While they took a step backwards at the trapping site, McGuire is 3 for his first 7 and potentially on his way to helping the Red Sox pull off something special.
New England, fingers crossed.
