After spoiling the planned announcement at this year’s Summer Game Fest, The Last of Us Part I keeps dripping everywhere. this time with new screenshots and a clip from the upcoming remake of developer Naughty Dog’s 2013 hit on PlayStation 3. These leaks will come shortly after The upcoming remake has gone goldand just before the PlayStation 5 release date on September 2nd.

The Last of Us Part I This isn’t the first time Naughty Dog and Sony have revisited the PlayStation 3 megahit. As you may know, the PlayStation exclusive survival horror seems to be competing with it Resident Evil 4 and Skyrim for the title “Games we’ll never fucking stop watching”. In 2014 it received its first remaster in the form of The Last Of Us remastered for PlayStation 4. According to at least one trailer, this “new” version has been “made from the ground up for PlayStation 5” and includes some new gameplay tweaks to put it on par with the popular but controversial 2020 sequel. It also offers prettier graphics when that floats your boat.

Thanks to leaks that surfaced on Twitter and YouTube yesterday, we’re getting another preview of the visual changes. In a video titled The Last of Us Part I – Leaked First PS5 Gameplay Clip, a critical spoiler moment in the opening of the full-world remake is available, new graphics and all.

Also the Twitter account Naughty Dog Central shared some screenshots of the remake, with direct comparisons to the original. And while no one will deny that these look prettier, a quick glance at the tweet’s comments reveals the tenor of some sentiment surrounding this latest remake project.

“Yes, no, that’s OUT OF LINE!! Especially for naughty dogs. I WILL NOT pay $70 for a simple non-MULTIPLAYER graphic upgrade,” read one reply. “Simple graphical enhancement” is certainly an oversimplification of the real work that’s going into this project, but the remake is in fact a refresh of a nine-year-old game without its original multiplayer, and Sony is charging a full $70 for it. There was Kickback from Naughty Dog as opposed to calling it a “money heist,” but it’s easy to see that people aren’t enthusiastic about the project.

People never stopped obsessing over the changes George Lucas made to the original war of stars Movies, if for no other reason than that it ruins the “moment in time” those movies inhabited in the 70’s and 80’s. The same thing happened to me The last of us. It was a pretty cool PS3 adventure and a nice way to wrap up this generation. A sequel felt kind of appropriate, but I now feel that the “timing” of the original is a little spoiled now thanks to this unnecessary remake trying to make itself relevant.
