The Great: Nicholas Hoult on the character’s growth since the Sex Slave era

Nicholas Hoult had some interesting insights into the development of Emperor Peter III, his character in Hulu’s The Great. Hoult shared his thoughts diversity Senior culture and events editor Marc Malkin during diversity On the carpet presented by DIRECTV.

“He’s a doting father now, which I think is the transition for most sex slaves,” Hoult said during the red carpet interview. “It’s an exploration of Catherine and his relationship and Elle [Fanning] is such a wonderful actress, we have a lot of fun.”

Hoult referenced the longstanding relationship between the two main characters of the show, which has developed drastically over the course of the show’s two seasons. Both Hoult and Fanning are Lead Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series nominations for their performances at Monday’s Primetime Emmy Awards.

“The Great” took home the award for Outstanding Period Costume at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, held on September 3rd and 4th.

The Great follows the reign of Fanning’s Catherine the Great as Russia’s last empress in the late 18th century. Fanning arrived at the awards ceremony red carpet on Monday night wearing a dress designed by Sharon Long, one of the show’s Emmy winners, at last weekend’s ceremony.

The show’s second season premiered on Hulu last November and was praised for its humor and “anti-historical” approach. In early January, Hulu announced that it had renewed the show for a third season, with a release date to be announced in the near future.
